The studies to determine the level of phenotypic consolidation and variability of the sows’ reproductive capacity indexes for different combinations of pig breeds were conducted in the conditions of the pig commercial farm of the private enterprise “Skrypnyk V.O.”, Lozovskyi district, Kharkiv region, according to the general principles of conducting research. The following breed combinations were studied: sows of the Poltava Meat and Welsh breeds in purebred breeding (groups I and II, respectively), animals of the same breeds in reciprocal crossing (groups III and IV, respectively), and sows of Welsh and the Poltava Meat in direct combinations with boars of the Large White breed (groups V and VI, respectively). The presence of different values (from negative to positive) was revealed for the estimated indexes of different groups of animals, calculated both through the coefficient of variation and through the standard deviation. It was determined that for the index of the total number of piglets at birth, there were negative indexes for all groups, calculated both through the coefficient of variation and through the standard deviation. The lowest values of consolidation in terms of the total number of piglets at birth were characterized by animals from the Welsh breed with the Large White. The same group of animals was characterized by the lowest consolidation in terms of the number of live piglets at birth. According to this index of the sow productivity, the best values of consolidation were characterized by the combination of animals from the Poltava Meat breed with the Welsh breed. It was found that according to the litter mass index at weaning, calculated both through the coefficient of variation and through the standard deviation, the low consolidation values were determined for all groups of animals.
The lowest level of phenotypic consolidation coefficients according to this index was characterized by the group of animals from the combination of the Poltava Meat sows with the Large White breed. However, according to the average weight of one piglet at weaning, this group of animals was more consolidated. The combination of the Welsh breed with the Poltava Meat was the most unconsolidated according to this index.
